The six counselors of Peoria High served as guidance aids to the more than two thousand students. College planning led the list of duties, as the counselors provided scholarship in- formation, advised the students on colleges, and administered various tests. Students also received assistance about vocational opportunities and class scheduling. The counselors were available for personal confer- ences. Mrs. Tressie Kozelka served her first year as a counselor, and Mrs. Cheryl Barnett switched from the math staff to guide and prepare stu- dents for the future. Board Skis Lawsg Deans Qahold Them Henry Stepping Florence Poshard Dean of Boys Dean of Girls Members of the Board-Standing: William Schwab, George Miles, Leo Sullivan, Leonard Costa. Seated: Mary McDade, Iackson Newlin, Claude Norcross, Elizabeth Cleaver. Miss Florence Poshard, Dean of Girls, enforced the administration policies for the girls. She was also in charge of commencement exercises and honor roles. Her firm guidance prepared girls for future occupations. Mr. Henry Stepping, Dean of Boys, took charge of discipline for the boys. Relieved of some of his lesser duties, he had more time for student prob- lems. Mr. Stepping was also in charge of Senior National Honor Society. Dr. Claude Norcross took the re- sponsibilities of Superintendent of Peoria schools. The Board worked on such items as school boundaries, teacher salaries, and courses to be offered.
