L Peoria High met the challenge to change with the times. Switching to IBM scheduling, adding a fifth coun- selor, projects sponsored by the PE departments, and other curriculum modifications typified Central's pro- gressive spirit. The school tried a new setup first semester involving five lunch hours and a fourth hour homeroom but discarded the latter in Ianuary. Extra-curricular activities served to enrich the participants. Teachers and students also cooper- ated to maintain the traditions as- sociated with PHS through scholastic and athletic accomplishments. ii 19 if mag f 1 If I lnvitations of the utdoor Life As each school day came to an end, students turned to the out-of- doors. Slowly the brisk chill of fall edged aside the warm summer days. Reds, golds, and ambers dominated the skyline as autumn touched its paintbrush to the trees forming a my- riad of color. Centralites busied themselves with the time-honored task of raking the endless leaves. Winter arrived with its glistening snow, although the latter waited un- til long after the cold air had sent its biting fingers through us. Peoria's sledding areas and skating rinks pro- vided escapes from Weekday rou- tines. Appearance of the timid sprouts and the pale buds of spring brought with it promises of renewal. Throughout the year, quiet evenings were sometimes set aside for simply dreaming of the future. it Q 31' ,X 1 , .1 5 2 . f ii 3 : X:-W Introduction Page 7
