EX lBRl At the end of the Dark Ages, the Crusaders ret d urne home from their gallant adventures and brought with them rugs, sillcs, and perfumes ol the Orient. Until' this time most of Europe had not been aware that land stretched far enough East for another civilization. Of those who did lcnow ol the Orient, lew realized how cultured this civilization actually was until they saw these products. As the demand lor goods increased, many countries sent parties to search for a new route over which these luxuries could be more easily trans- ported. We Americans owe much to this Oriental trade, lor it was on one of these expeditions that Columbus discovered America. Any civilization which has existed for many centuries has a well-developed culture, the Orient is no excep- tion. The one God was Buddha and his temples were . - the places of learning.
