Being a part of this stream is a truly thrilling experience. The river's course is constantly being influenced by new and changing tributaries, all of which contribute their share toward the river's ultimate goal. ln our school life these are the many experiences and activities in and outside of the classrooms which furnish a direct influence upon our later life. The effect which a storm has upon the river is vividly seen. At the present time a severe and devastating storm is spreading its reaching fury into the lives of all of us. The sea into which our river is flowing is not a tranquil one. However, with the courage and competence that we are developing as our stream flows onward, we shall be prepared for the tempests ahead. Many of those who have gone before us are now bravely with- standing the storm. Men and women who were once a part of this river are serving our country and serving us to their utmost. Some have already given their lives, and more will pay the same sacrifice. It is therefore with great pride and devotion that we dedicate this book to the Peoria High School Alumni in the Armed Forces of whom this Service Flag is a syrnbolq X R Xfxx Qj XX 1 ,f t w MA t . a . .l . t il ,ll V 4, if iv S 52 3 ! s X1 I V is , , The Crest Staff t Long, busy hours and work filled holidays K- are a matter of course for the Crest Staff in their Q I XX ambition to create the best yearbook ever. l ix All o X? gf' - ix 'NQ L , w , E' K K 4 I ' E 1 Editor-in-Chief ........ ..... The team clicked well against Washington. The Spalding game was one in which defenses was absent on both sides as offenses of both teams Went into high gear. It was a seesaw game with the Irish fin- ishing on the long end. Tom Folkerts was disabled for the Woodruff game and able to play only a few minutes. The Warriors played inspired ball and defeated us in a hard fought game, 6 to O. Our boys found themselves in the second half of the Streator game and came from behind in the closing moments to register a nice victory over the Bulldogs. A journey to Springfield proved disastrous as we went down to the tune of 34 to U by a fine Senator team. This seemed to snap Central out, and we returned a surprising victory over a much favored Pekin team, l9 to U at Pekin. The following week an even greater surprise victory was gained over East Peoria, 7 to 6, in a fiercely contested ball game. Champaign, who eventually won the down-state championship, came here with a great team, and Central did well to score besides Worrying the future champs quite a little. The Manual game went about the way most people doped it with the exception of Central holding them to one touchdown. Manual enjoyed too much of a weight advantage to rate as anything less than a strong favorite. - Peoria Peoria Peoria Peoria Peoria Peoria Peoria Peoria Peoria Won 4 Lost 5 SCORES High 65 Washington U High 19 Spalding 26 High O Woodruff 6 High 14 Streator 7 High O' Springfield 34 High l9 Pekin U High 7 East Peoria 6 High 6 Champaign l9 High U Manual 7 X I Q VIVA: N , ft Qs duff fl If NIA fix, Uyl' NA! uf- I ' 16 f ,fi , I 03-4159? There were some veterans who could always be relied upon to come through at the right time. To mention a few, Bill Miller in the pole-vault, Henry Fisher in the dashes, hurdles, and jumps, and Tom Folkerts who was always in there fighting for those points in the dashes. There were some humorous things happened too. Re- member when we had to get Henry Fisher out of bed to run in the District, and in the same meet Torn Folkerts got in under the Wire from the Baseball tournament and almost had to run in a baseball suit? Three defeats came at the hands of Manual, and one each was registered by Champaign and Bloomington. The meets were all triangular affairs except the last onwa dual with Manual. Bob Phalen gained some fine individual honors by be- coming the district champion. He also rated third in the Big 12 and fifth in the State. Players of their calibre would, undoubtedly, have made a distinct difference in our team standings. However, and fortunately for Central, there re- mained Eldon Yeck and Bill Baxter to form the core of a team whose final standings were still enviable. Newcomers lack Weik and Don Stewart ably rounded out a four-man team, and these new men were always in the battle, win or lose. As a season starter, the Maroons were obliged to settle for a tie in their match with Canton. In their next match, against Pekin, the first taste of defeat was sufferedp but this was to be the only such result of the season. There followed a neat 4-2 victory over a strong Princeton team. However, Princeton partly avenged this defeat by achieving a tie in their return match. Decatur likewise followed their pattern and played our Maroons to a tie. Both the Princeton and Decatur matches were hard fought, and sterling play appeared especially in the singles matches. Lincoln then appeared on our schedule and they, too, suffered a 4-2 defeat. Closing matches of the season against Pekin and Bloomington again resulted in ties. Tournament Results District Team-2nd Place. Singles Championship-Yeck CCentraD. ,.
