Campus Elections Check 19 candidates only as your selection for representation . . . As election officials la- boriously count votes, they wonder about the sincerity - the responsibility -- of some of the newly elected senators. Will they take the office more seriously than have some of their predeces- sors? Has a new day dawned at PJC? When final vote counts are revealed two factors are evident. Apathy, an old and evidently established institu- tion of politics continues to linger while at the same time the political party system thrives. After weeks of campaigning, drawing posters and talking with students, newly chosen senators wonder if their effort to give PJ C students a truly representative Student Government was really worth it considering the less than 20 percent voter turnout. Once again the year ends with the same problems unsolved. Signs tell of upcoming elections and rallies as a candidate speaks. ,A r' N?,g5glll4fxl,ulfx. PCW-MIA Project In November the people of Pensacola respond- ed to the continuing problem of the plight of Amer- ican POW-MIA's - those too-often forgotten Americans who have disappeared behind North Vietnam's bamboo curtain during the long years of the Vietnam War. A campaign was mounted to raise money to send a delegation of nine Pensacola youths to Paris, France to seek information on American POW-MIA's from North Vietnam's delegation at the Paris Peace Talks. After numerous fund- raising activities including road blocks, car Wash- es, sales of various sorts, dances and donation drives, enough money Was raised to send a group of nine youths - eight high school students and one PJC student - to Paris to do, as it turned out, what no other similar student group had been able to do for at least tvvo years - talk to the North Vietnamese delegation. Contacting ambassadors, visiting embassies, making telephone calls and composing a most im- pressive telegram, the Pensacola delegation finally obtained an audience with Ngyuen Tau Lein, the North's chief peace talk delegate. Expressing sur- prise that the citizens of Pensacola would send such a large youth delegation, Lein, who had ori- ginally granted only a five minute meeting, spent nearly three hours talking with three members of the delegation. Though no immediate tangible action resulted - no new information was obtained on American POW-MIA's - the World was made aware that Pensacola youth do care about American POW- MIA's. 'Hmm' Escambia High School student Kip Jackson signs POW-MIA document as Ben Blanchard, delegate from Pensacola Junior College, watches.
