4 ., Iohn Chappell Walking onto the stage after three hours of make-up which transformed his 31 years into Mark Twain's 73, John Chappell kicked off the 1970-71 Lyceum Series with a masterful rendi- tion of Hal Holbrook's Mark Twain Tonight. Holding a cigar and puffing occasionally with resultant spirals of smoke rising above the fami- liar Twainian countenance, Chappell presented a wide assortment of Twain's satire, humor and commentary. Program format was flexible with Chappell selecting material as he performed. Chappell's professional talent and knowledge of Mark Twain made his performance a highlight of the Lyceum Series.

Max Rafferty What's going to happen to us as individuals? was the question posed by noted educator, lecturer and columnist, Dr. Max Rafferty, during his ap- pearance at PJC for the November 19 Lyceum convocation. His lecture dealing with the place of the individual in today's highly regimented soci- ety, was followed by a press conference at WSRE and later a question and answer session on the Student Center Patio. During both events, Raffer- ty, appealing to a surprisingly wide cross-section of the campus, stimulated student interest and thinking. Student response was sober, questioning and critical. , A ,.,, - ' .
