Barfield has announced his retirement. Mr. P. J. C. , as he is affectionately called, is one of the true pioneers in the establishment of the Junior College System in the State of Florida. He is known through- out Florida Junior Colleges as the Dean of College Registrars and the only faculty- administrative member to claim twenty-three years of continuous service in the State Junior College System. He served as a professor of Biology for many years, was Director of the College prior to the time the College became part of the Public Junior College System, served as chief campus administrator, Counselor, Business Officer, and Registrar. As the College grew, he relinquished all other duties, remaining as Registrar, a position which he occupied with distinction and in which he gave leadership for all the colleges that were to be established after 1948. A lover of flowers and an expert in horticulture, Mr. Barfield voluntarily assumed the responsibilities of the beautification of the new campus. What we enjoy today is a testimony of his love for the College and his dedication to higher education. His many students, friends and colleagues will miss his genial smile, his willingness to be of assistance, but, most importantly, his depth of knowledge and experience. ,fem
