This aspect of a Classical education is still available in today's school in the study of discussion and de- I 'QE bate. A study of discussion and debate develops inthe student the ability to think clearly, critically, and analytically, which are abilities needed to be an effective l participant in a democratic society. Debate trains the student to research both sides of an issue, to support his views, and to deal with counter-argu- ments. Discussion trains the student to work within a group, to compromise for the greater good of the group, and to share equally with others the responsibil- ities of a given task. The skills developed . in a discussion and debate class carry over not only into other subject areas but into all daily situations. wt 3- 1. Varsity Football! 195 T gers Make It Even 1984-a year of ups and downs for the fighting Tigers! Young and inexperienced can be the words to descirbe the Tigers. Only eight seniors were on the squad. The rest were juniors and sophomores, making the 5-5 record more impressive than it would seem. The season began with a disappointing 8-7 loss to Washington but ended with the defeat of 3-A State Champs Escambia 27-7. The senior leadership of Webbie Burnett on defense and offensive lineman Dimitri Dismukes held the Tigers in place until the younger Tigers could get the game experience they needed. Both Webbie and Dimitri topped off the season by making 1st team All-State and signing scholarships to Florida and North Alabama respectively. Although the 1984 season was not the most productive season as far as win-lost record, the coaches feel that much was learned. They are looking forward to having 38 lettermen returning and are excited about a more experienced squad in 1985. Conse- quently we underwent the process of learning how to put a yearbook together in slow motion many times having to go back and correct our mistakes. We made it and we are proud of the final product. I would like to take this time to thank those dedicated few who made S4 Q wx I ,fl as' l K I its Jiri: 3 h - 1 ' .tn RA gy . I . - lg' 'T iliiif' g l 'WI this book a reality. Raymond Lunsford was responsible for a majority of the football photography. '29' Jennifer Gaugler sold the most ads and made sure that film was Tm--W M... , developed. - S-9-E' Q1 Paul Sasser sold a large amount of ads and books. He also did the ad 1 g layouts and wrote some copy. E 5 p If Theaser Knight and Cortrina Woodyard did the senior messages and V ' f summaries, which meant a lot of organizing and typing. , Matt Dunlap sold the most yearbooks. He also did a fantastic job of i photography for the entire book. ' Sharon Bement did a good job of sellling ads and books. She was T responsible for all finances, keeping track of sales and fund raisers. 3 Sharon typed and wrote copy. '- Kim Hache had the tough job of doing the entire club section by 'B herself, including layouts, writing, and typing. Kim also did many of the D sports layouts and typed when necessary for any section. She had a U high record of book sales as well. : 2 Melissa Johnson worked with Kim on sports. She was in charge of the I0 -E l entire people section, which includes pictures of everyone in the school. : 11 4 ii Melissa was also responsible for half of the closing section. She did ,Q l layouts, type sheets, and cropped pictures throughout the year. K I want to extend a special thanks to Ms. Dunson for sharing pictures H -1 3 and the Tiger's Tale staff for writing copy. Thanks to Mouth Duch forthe S calligraphy of the school alma mater. My sophomore English students UPU also deserve a pat on the back for being so patient with my yearbook 5q, l moods. up Finally, in every organization there is one person who is responsible - Ll :J for more than seems possible. For the Annona '85 this person has been T., 3 1 lr Lynne McArthur. Her work has made this book very original. Lynne was solely responsible for the Annona '85 cover and all the art in the book. Q, Art, however, was only one of Lynne's many talents that made this book possible. Lynne was also an expert at layouts, writing, picture cropping, 4' and photography. She did all of the student life and academic sections and halt of the closing section. Lynne's layouts, headlines, captions, c0py, and photography were used from cover to cover. Her creative abilities allowed us to have original poems over the senior pictures and the closing section. Lynne McArthur graduates this year, and the new Annona staff will be at a loss without her. Best of luck to you, Lynne! You will be missed by us all. C.
