Lettermen Launched lrnovative Projects The animated Lettermen inaugu- rated new schemes to appropriate funds. The dozen sports enthusiasts sold spirit jackets, held a slave sale, and even marketed doughnuts. Cam Carlson, aided by Mr. Grant, presided over the meetings. The Sports Banquet and the pur- chase of needed athletic equipment culminated the efforts exerted by the athletes. The five cheerleaders' spirited encouragement kept the basketball squad in earnest perseverance to win. Whether faced with injuries, losses, or wins, these five spirit sparkers never crumbled. The eight Varsity cheerleaders who sometimes retreat to their closet in order to prevent Ben-gay from aer- ating their home. ln spite of being able to do the rou- tines in their sleep, butterflies multi- plied in the pre-game hours. Yet this nervousness was incomparable to the exploding tension of many close games. With racing pulses, straining voices, and rising temperatures, the spirit sparkers chanted, Sink it! Rebound! Jump! Hustle! or Defense! Anxiety and tension, of course, but also tears ot joy as a winning cry would resound over the gymnasium. Organizationsf93
