With all the fanfare of na- tional elections, various political parties each May vie against each other to capture the coveted status of ruling group. PHILOMENA PINELLI gives her all as she addresses the Class of 1952. She was among the speakers who for the first time last year were selected on a competitive basis to speak at the Com- mencement exercises. Previously, the two top ranking students had always been asked to serve as graduation speakers. Y Q .7t's Sasy to l3cmembrr . If one will pause to meditate during a busy day in school, it will become amazingly apparent to him in how many respects the different phases of school life could with the aid of a bountiful imagination be set to music. The tenor of some classes, of some activities, could lend themselves very readily to the jubilant strains of a triumphal marchg that of others, to the sombre chords of a Russian dirge. Without exception in the course of a year in all areas will be struck, of course, some sour notes, for to some pupils the concise laws of the sciences and the appreciative vision required by the arts only become cacophanous. For the majority of students, however, high school will end with a thunderous finale similar to that in which an orchestra breaks after a turbulent overture. May the cascade of rolling notes, dynamic, ever changing, driving relentlessly onward over every obstacle to form a great Q , musical compositibn interpret Pennsbury as one of the finest schools extant - a monu- ment to man's efforts for a better world, if not in this generation, in the generations to come! Another publication, the Pennsburian, is issued sev- eral times a year to keep the student body up to date on the latest events, gossip, and other topics of current interest. Off to its 1952 season, Pennsbury's varsity base- ball team, led by Coach Cy Bachman, proceeded to rack up the imposing record of twelve victories- most of them by large margins. Aided by the slug- ging of Chris Bennett and Ray Bray and the terrific pitching of Bill Bray and Larry Powell, the Falcons scored three shutouts in the early part of the season. During the last half of their schedule, the team dropped four games to tough opponents because of costly errors. Despite the fact that the eighth graders were in school only during the mornings and the seventh graders were in school only during the afternoons, a fairly full program of competitive organized sports was carried on. Football and baseball were probably the most popular, though track with over fifty entrants held its own. Un- fortunately because of press dead- line, no pictures of the 1953 base- ball and track teams could appear in this book. Coaches included A. Donzanti, E. Hamilton, and G. Barsky Qfootballj, J. Truly an athletic field night, students of all grades under the tutelage of the physical education department demonstrated almost every kind of sport mentionable. Tears flowed in the Orange camp at the end of Fri- day evening, March 27 fGirls' Nighty, as top team seemed to be the Black. Smiles were gleeful among the victors the following night fBoys' Nightj as, sure enough, the Ebony competitors proved their prowess.
