Z FIRST ROW: Roger Bierly, Emory Floray, John Martz, jim Dearing, john Schade, Dick Weyman, Robert Shawver, Ronald Eisenhart-Co-Captain, Huling Bressler. SECOND ROW: Robert Steiger, Bill Styers, Tom Searfoss, Larry Anderson-Co- Captain, Mick O'I-Tara, Coach Gates. Absent: Mike Myer, Barry Harbach, Allen Packer, Sam Bierly, Managers Dan Wolfe and Richard Solt. BASEBALL 1959 While posting a 2-6 league record, the best Ram performance in three years of Central Counties League play, Penns Valley managed to slip out of the league basement. After dropping an S-2 exhibition game to Kishacoquillas, whom they outhit, Coach Gates's boys lost the league opener 8-2 to Philipsburg. Ron Eisenhart, john Schade, and Sam Bierly led our offensive at- tack against Bellefonte with one home run apiece. The Rams really put on their hitting clothes and trounced the Red Raiders 17-1. The following week we journeyed to State College and received a trouncing of our own 12-O. Playing a very loose defensive game paved the way for Bald Eagles 12-3 win in our home opener at the Old Fort. Eventual champ State College defeated us 6-1 as Sam Bierly did a fine job on the mound for the Rams. After leading for 31f2 innings at Wingate, the roof fell in and the Eagles of Bald Eagle went on to defeat us 10-2. Our weak defense again aided Philipsburg's Mountaintoppers to defeat us, 7-4 this time. Rich Weyman hurled the leagues only no-hitter this season as he defeated Bellefonte 7-2 in the league finale. Again errors hurt the Ram cause but Weyman's performance overshadowed this as he allowed no balls to be hit out of the infield and struck out 9 en route to his second win of the year. Ron Eisenhart led the team in batting average, hits, runs, and R.B.I.'s. His astronomical batting average of .545 also led the league. john Schade led the team in extra-base hits while Dick Weyman posted DICK WEYMAN a very respectable earned run average of 1.7 runs per game.
