Preparing boys for varsity and junior varsity football is the aim of a junior high coach. We found much lacking in our squad, but there were bright points also. We traveled first to Chief Logan where the Rams found the Mingoes were too experienced and we dropped a 25-O verdict. Playing Bald Eagle at home, we battled on even terms for three quarters, but a pass cost the Rams the contest, score, Eagles 6, Rams O. Being host to Lock Haven, we found the Bobcats too strong and lost 26-7. Traveling to State College the Rams encountered an experienced Junior Lion team. The Lions recorded the victory 41-6. With lack of experience being one of the main factors, the Penns Valley Football team turned in a 1-4-1 record for the season. Making its only touchdown on a 95-yard kickoff runback by john Martz, the Rams dropped its first night game 43-6 at the hands of a powerful Capt. Jack team at Mt. Union. For the next night we traveled to Morris Township where we met a strong Blue Devil Team. Here we dropped a 32-O decision with lack of experience and penalties being the deciding factors. journeying next to Alexandria after two weeks practice, correcting our mistakes, we held our own against the Juniata 107 Valley squad with the final score ending in a 6-6 tie. In our first home game the Mingoes of Chief Logan ran up a 31-6 decision as Dick Wolfe dragged down a pass on the 20-yard line and loped across for the only touchdown of the game. Picking up its only win during the season, Penns Valley galloped over Southern Huntingdon to the tune of 20-6. The 20 points came from a Wolfe to Witmer pass, a line plunge by Bright, and an off tackle play by Searfoss. In the first Iron Bell game Penns Valley dropped a 40-O decision to the Bald Eagle squad after out- playing the visitors for one quarter. This year junior varsity football was inqoduced to Penns Valley. The team was composed of fresh- men, sophomores, and juniors. The one game was with the Bellefonte Junior Varsity in which Penns Valley sent Dick Wolfe over for two touchdowns during the fourth quarter to insure its 12-7 victory over Bellefonte. Our predominately underclass lineup dropped a hotly disputed 46-45 decision in the season's lidlifter to Bald Eagle. Sweet revenge was gained one month later in the form of a 41-37 win on the Eagle's court. Two wins and an overtime loss coupled with the Bald Eagle games started the season spectacularly with the onset of Central Penn League action, Penns Valley's fortunes dropped. The Rams, along with the Mountaintoppers from Renovo, are the only class B schools in an otherwise A league. These two contested hotly for a position in the district class B play- offs. Two weeks after losing 66-32 at Lock Haven, we staged a dramatic comeback against the league champion Bobcats at home. The effort fell short 39-37 with Penns Valley in control of the ball at the final whistle. VARSITY BASKETBALL VARSITY BASKETBALL VARSITY BASKETBALL RAMS OPP. RAMS OPP.
