Mrs, H. Gay Hofecker is one of the speech and hearing therapists employed by the Centre County Public Schools. Her assigned areas include the elementary schools and the high school in the Penns Valley area, and the elementary schools in the State College Borough. The duties of a speech therapist include the surveying of classes for speech and hearing problemsg the diagnosing of these problemsg the administering of hearing tests to those students who are found to have a hearing lossg the referring of students, when necessary, to other professional persons or agenciesg and, of course, the carrying out of the remedial work in therapy sessions. In 1956, Mrs. I-lofecker was graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Sci- ence degree. Her major there was speech therapy, and her minor was elementary education. This is the second year in which she has carried out a program in Penns Valley. I 53
