But the players set out to prove them wrong. And prove them wrong they did, for it turned out to be one of Re-Hi's best. The 1957 team won 6, lost l, tied 1. As the coach said, This is the best spirited and co-operative team l have ever had. The team scored 207 points, sec- ond highest in South Jersey. The team also sported four of South Jersey's finest football players as was shown by their recognitions. The team of 1958 will badly feel the results of the Senior class gradu- ation for the team sported ll seniors, all of whom played considerably. The 1958 class would like to say Good luck to next year's football team. A-I - ' K A slam, x-.., .. .W 'i 1 f ' ! Kneeling: Bob Stranahan, Harry Adams, and Jack Homan. ,......,X ,N iisf 12 The Hardluck team is a name which fits the 1958 team to a tee. ln only 6 games was the team in full force. Injuries to the key players possibly caused the team the loss of the Tri-County Championship, which they had captured in the previous 6 years running. lnexperience was another leading factor, for the team sported only one holdover from the Championship club of 1957. The team had probably the best shooter in Tri County in Dan McFarland, a talented Junior. Look for great things out of this boy. But without the help and spirit of the other ballplayers one man couldn't have carried the burden of success. Others con- tributing a commendable iob to the team are as follows: Adams, Filippone, Belitza, Stranahan, Sutton, Homan, Conley, Batchis, and Mattson. Even with the iinx the team had a respectable 15-6 record. The players of 1958 want to thank Mr. Rudy Baric and Mr. Coleman Burns, the best coaches in the business, for their guidance and faith in the team. They captured two high-ranking titles: the Tri-County Baseball Championship, and the South Jersey Group II Championship. The players were rewarded by receiving trophies for the Tri-County title and iackets for the South Jersey Group ll title. But all of this success wouldn't have been possible unless a fine coach had been in charge. Luckily, the team has one of the finest coaches in the South Jersey ranks in Mr. James Devon- shire. The team started out like a house-a-fire by winning their first ten games, but because some of the key players were playing out- side baseball, the team lost three games in a row. The coach de- manded: either play for the High School team or for the outside team. The players chose the High School team. After the mishap, the team won their next three games, proving that they were the champions.
