Mr. Allan Tomlinson, Superintendent of the Penns Grove-Upper Penns Neck Schools Best wishes and lots of success to the class of 1956. l have had the opportunity of seeing you at work and play during the past four years, and I have been impressed with your many outstanding achievements as individuals and as a group. MANZE, Principal Heartiest congratulations To all members ot the graduat- ing class ot I956. In all sincerity, I hope that you are at The beginning, rather Than the end, ot The most productive period in your lives. More Than ever before, great chal- lenges lie ahead of you as contributors to The changing world ot Tomorrow. It is fortunate, indeed, that The varie- ties of opportunity are as broad as your range of interests and abilities. Yours is the responsibility to choose your goals in terms of your aptitudes and true calling. Most people who tail in lite have not learned To live cooperatively with their Tellow men. Four years ot high school have allowed you-even forced you-to learn re- spect tor rights ot others in The hurried, crowded lite ot a student. Equally important to remember throughout lite is the need to aim high-try To achieve the highest in all you attempt. You never lose by doing your best. WILLIAM L. MANZE I2 fan' -Kf? -- MISS ETHEL E. DORIS DONALDSON, RN School Nurse fox . -N' X .....- A student entering Regional High School has his choice of furthering his edu- cation along one of three lines of study: these are the College Preparatory, Com- mercial, and General Courses. Subiects offered in the Academic Course are mathe- matics, sciences, languages, and social studies. The Commercial Course presented is sufficient to prepare the student for work in an office or for a secretarial position. Subiects studied over the four-year period include iunior business training, bookkeeping, geography, stenography, typing, law and economics, history, and English. A third course, categorized as General, requires history, English, general science, general math, and subiects elected by the student from the Academic and Com- mercial Courses. A well rounded sports program allows students to participate in football, base- ball, basketball, hockey, tennis, or track. Extracurricular activities which are func- tioning in the school include the choir, Red and White, Student Council, Honor Society, and clubs for all interests. Members of the band list their daily rehearsals as a regular subiect. ln four years, a member of Re-Hi's society can find a great deal of knowledge, a busy schedule, and an indefatigable storehouse of fun. 1 xv E37 '41 I Q, :- ff MW jf J' j M 5 yn' .lor X ig l U X Q BQ wx . if. As freshmen, we certainly experienced plenty of those as we walked through Regional High School's portals for the first time. Thoughts of plays, proms, and sports activities filled our minds, but as all new students do, we felt strange, frightened, and a little inferior. Our misgivings were soon forgotten when we were greeted by a Welcome Freshmen Dance. Electing class officers was our first duty as members of Re-Hi. ln this we were guided by Miss Mary Dough- erty, our class sponsor. President Barbara Smith was assisted by Vice President, Myra Brubaker, Secretary, Elsie Coleman, and Treasurer, Robert Downs. As sophomores, having gotten over the experience of being green freshmen ourselves, we enjoyed immensely the privilege of looking down on the newest arrivals. This pleasure didn't last long because we soon had to get down to business and elect our class officers with the aid of Mrs. Mary Saletra. Barbara Suter tackled the job of president while Marie Rose, Gilda Mattioli, and Nick Pietro did fine iobs as Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, respectively. Besides the electing of leaders we had the added responsibility of presenting the sophomore fashion show, which completed our year's activities. We had finally reached the half-way point on our trip to the caps and gowns. Miss Marian Heaps was our sponsor, and President, William Coleman, Vice President, Stella Plerhoples, Secretary, Julia De Frank, and Treasurer, Fred Wierman, were elected to lead us during our first year as upperclassmen. After the election our thought turned to less serious matters such as the arrival of our long-awaited class rings and the Junior Prom, Harbor Lights. Whew!!! We had finally made it. We were mighty seniors at last. Our election of class officers that year required a great deal of thought because it was probably the most important of all four years. After much campaigning, George Hutchinson won the Presidency. Mary Jane Ellis was elected Vice President, Marie Rose, Secretary, and Nick Pietro, Treasurer. The senior year is always filled with a lot of activity and ours was no exception. Christmas was celebrated a week early by the holding of the annual Senior Dance, and we were kept busy through the rest of the winter preparing for the March Class Trip to Washington, an experience we'll remember for a long, long time. Graduation came at last, and with it all the little things, such as the exchanging of pictures and name cards and the signing of Retrospects, which are so much a part of it. In all activities we were grateful for the guidance of Mrs. Virginia Davidson. Then it was all over. We bade each other good-bye, hoping we would meet again. We knew that some would be fortunate, with others, things would be difficult, but we all wished each other the best of luck. f 6 . ,l fx If li ' 1, ,fa E xi' la A , ,JI 6 'G L if JN an is Z K Au f I ik 'TJ ,K -.!' These two organizations give their members much valuable information. To give special notice to high scholastic achievement, character, leader- ship, and service, The National Honor Society has a chapter in the school for those students who meet the qualifications. Hi-, 1 6 Q BASKETBALL if J Z .5 Basketball Coaches Mr. Burns and Mr. Baric CHARLES BEANS MCNEIL Beans McNeil put his team in the limelight by breaking all kinds of records. He not only scored lO4O points in regular varsity action, but also 486 points in the regular season and 160 in tournament play, the latter two giving him a new school record of 646 points. His 44 points against Gloucester were the most points scored by any one player in South Jersey. His honors include the All-Tri-County Team, the All-South Jersey Team, and the All-State Team. Co-Captain RUDIE HOLMES RON BRADY Rudy Baric showed his amazing coaching ability by turning our varsity into a superior team. With his tremendous knowledge of the sport, he conveyed his skill and ability to the players and transformed them into an incomparable team. Beans McNeil, our star center and co-captain, proved to be the main link in the success of the locals. With 486 points he won the South Jersey Scholastic Scoring Crown. The other co-captain, Rudie Holmes, a four-letter athlete, won the attention of the spectators by his skillful maneuvers on the court. He showed his all-around ability by contributing 220 points to the team's point total. Rex Davis, another Senior, was second top scorer on the team with 253 points to his credit in regular and tournament play. Ron Brady displayed extraordinary talents as a guard, keeping pace at all times with the opposition. At the same time, he ended the season with l l8 points. Along with Brady, George Bragg, an outstanding Junior on the Big Five, contributed much to the Red Devils' victories, including his 205 points for the season. Winning Tri-County for the fifth consecutive year, the l955-56 Basketball Team again showed its magnificent form under the capable coaching of Mr. Baric. In Group lll competition for the first time, the team stayed at the top of its league with a total of eighteen wins and only one loss. The Red Devils wound up the regular season with 1330 points to clinch second place in total points in South Jersey. With its dynamic playing ability, our team fought its way into South Jersey Semi-Finals by defeating Lower Regional in the first Tournament game. Again showing their cleverness on the basketball court, they over- powered Haddonfield to qualify for the South Jersey Group lll Finals. With a one-point victory over a hard- fighting Woodrow Wilson team, Re Hi won its first South Jersey Group Ill Championship. Adorned with these laurels, the Baricmen entered the State Semi- Finals against Princeton High School. The high-stepping varsity overwhelmed the Central Jersey Champs and found themselves in the State Finals for the first time in Re Hi's history. Even though they lost to the North Jersey champion team of Cranford in the Finals, our team won the notice, respect, and admiration of sports fans throughout the state.
