These were our leaders Commencement On VN ednesday evening June 1 1960 245 semors graduated lnto a 'confused world The commencement program was a very solemn affalr It all began as the sen1ors marched down the a1sle and up onto the stage to the rhythm of left pause r1ght pause left pause rxght pause left pause rlght pause thud Doggone lt all fellows why d1dn't somebody tell me that cord w1s there'7 Fmally everyone was up on the stage There they stood 1n utter fear as they saw over one thousand people leermg at them from down below Sharon Hebhardt Sandra Berger and lNanc5 lxase spoke on the theme The Class of 1960 Graduatmg lnto a Confused World Sharon's speech was l1ke a TV show It was lnterrupted several t1mes because of techmcal d1ff1cult1es Dr XX XX Eshelman Presldent of the Natlonal Educatlon Assoc1at1on gave an address entltled Looklng Ahead Thomas Baldw1n presented the class g1ft Mr Rosenkrance accepted lt At last came the blg moment when Dr Charles Apple pre sented the d1plomas -Xs each person grasped h1s d1p1omf1 f1rm1V w1th h1s left hand a sm1le spread over h1s face as he thought Xl ell I'Ve fmally made lt ' ks the last notes of the Alma Mater faded away 1nto the starry mght shouts of Joy muffled wlth soft sobs of sadness came from the stage The sen1ors reallzed that thelr htgh school days were gone forever Our speaker Dr W W Eshelman
