Never- theless there were internal changes which were not always a wel- come relief. Individuals rooted to secure routines were faced with changes of values, attitudes, and career goals. Individuals afraid to ask themselves for changes within their lives, changes which in- spired thoughts of relocation and the general unsettledness of college life. All of these struggles and transformations within the student body, so separate and yet so different, molded us into one. The seasons are but a cycle in the life of the earth, likewise the cycle of new beginnings and endings refreshed the student life at PHS. The school was an ideal place for exploration and discovery of new ideas which led to an enlightening perspective on life and the unknown future. Self-exploration was often a frustrating and pain- ful process; however, served as a basis for development, individual growth, and increased awareness into possibilities for enrichment. If defined properly, PHS is an individual environment comprised of many students. Students seeking to approach changing values and issues directly affecting their lives, idealism tempered with realism, and the apathy of past years replaced by a new community oriented activism. Students committing themselves was no longer taboo as individuals placed importance on scholastic achievement, campus involvement, and career goals. Transitions into new classes, subjects, and relationships often seemed painful. Frustration, de- pression, and set backs were common occurances for many stu- dents which overcoming these gave individuals the inner satistac- tion of achievement. Growth was gained as much from failure as from success. The integration and involvement into these exper- iences was the essence of PHS — an individual community of students working together, striving to attain the realization of goals, inner strengths, and possibilities for the future.
