Gloria Tripp '57 14 Lilerary EDITORIALS The Old Farm Dec. 1, 1953 Dear Editer in Cheef: When you ast me to rite a edi- toriel for youre paper, I was imbar --embear--well, I was stumped You see, when I went to school at P. I. we didn't have no gym, we didn 't have no shop, we didn't have no school paper. We didn't have practikaly no advantages. So, I never did git to rite no editoreals, This is my first one. Don't think, however, we are jealous, we old grads. We are very proud of the progress that P. I. has made and is making; of the boys and girls who go on to Kol--Univer- sties and other schools of hier larning. We are glad that you have gut such good teachers and when they dish it out, we hope you'll, each and all, grab youre spoon and git you're share. So, if in after years you're called on to rite a editoril you'll know how to spel and knot be tied down to a dikshinary. We are glad to here that you have a Student Council and that it is doing so good. In owr day when we gouverned ourselves, the princi- ple liked us for it, Concerted action is all powerfull, ours was diversified, We old Grads are proud of your fine baseball and basket ball teams and specially proud of the good sportamanship of both players and student body. We wish the latter would help the cheerleaders a littl more: most of the time they do al the work, It is hard to cheer and do a summersot -at the same time. Finaly, Bros and Sisters, when after graduation, you join the Alum- ni Association, we hope you will unite with the inner circle of the ten or twelve alumni members who attend all the meetings, do all the work and receeve all the kicks. An active loyal Alumni could be a grate asset to Pennell Institute. We hope you will help us make one. Yrs truly Uncle Jim SPORTSMANSHIP Are you a gocd sport? Can yor be a good loser as weil as a trium- phant winner? Will you cheer Pennell boys when they are twenty points behind with as much spirit as when they are twenty points ahead? The spectator plays an impor- tant part in any basketball game. If the student body is for a team with all the optimism of victory, the team will give its best to win. Un the other hand, if the boys Should lose, it is just as impor- tant to accept defeat in a gracious manner and say they played a good game. If you play basketball, can you 'grin and bear! a few things or do you resolve to 'get' back at your opponent the next time up the flo-r? Also, boys, do you pay attentionvto any of the training rules?Pennell's standards drop fast in the public eye when the team is seen smoking when the coach isn't around. If we want a winning team, both team and spectators must co-operate with the standards and rules set up by the principal, the coach, and the referees. So may victory be our aim and good sportsmanship our motto. As I watched him he lok- ed up.and saw me. Startled, he said, What are you doing in the forest? Who let you out cf Pennell? I went a little closer and saw that he had a medicine dropper in one hand and a butterfly net in the other. He had been trying to get the fish to pose, he explained, when I sat down near him. As we talked I learned he was a lover of wild life and sketched aimals in their surroundinge Soon the little chipmunk I had seen hopped up “to use He cocked his head and said, What are you doing in our forest?
