HOLD- ING THE BALL: Becki Wimer. When the Pantherettes returned to begin their 53-54 basketball season, they found that all of the people they had relied on last year were gone. However, with high spirits, they set about to reorganize. Mr. White agreed to coach them and Mrs. Walker accompanied them to all of their games. Ruth Simpson was elected as captain of the team and she began their semi- successful season. They played the Alumni, Winfield, Mars, and Butler. The first string throughout the season were: Forwards, Dorothea Dietrich, Ruth Alice Weckerly, and Gloria Cooper, and guards, Arlene Bart- ley, Carol DeWoody, and Ruth Simpson. This year, Gloria Cooper established a new scoring record when she threw in 35 points at the Mars game although the team was defeated.

This year Penn Township had the best Junior Varsity team in the history of the school. They finished the season with a fine 21 and 1 record. Their only loss came at the hands of a good Karns City team in the final game of the season. Several of the Junior Varsity players hope to be on the Varsity next year and they should be a big help to the team.
