.73 LEFT TO RIGHT: Coach, Loyal Park, Jim Scholter, Don Hughes, Ron Cooper, Bob Huselton, Carl Pflugh, Al McGrath, Jim Furl, Jim McCor- mick, Curt Wible, Gary Weinzierl, John Gilliland, Nelson James, Carl Hughes, John Smith, Managers. The 1953-54 basketball season will be remembered forever by all of us. Even though we didn't win the championship, we had one of the best records in the history of the school. Our 1953 record was surpassed only by the championship team of 1948-49. Two games will stand out in the memory of all Penn Township fans. The first one was the 46-41 victory over the defending champion Chicora tea.m, which knocked them out of contention. The other was a thrilling 59-54 victory, our last game, over Karns City, Class B champs of Butler County. We would like to show our appreciation to Loyal Park for his fine job of coaching. We would also like to thank Mr. White for his work as athletic director and coach. We would also like to include on this list, Bill Weckerly for his excellent job of handling publicity, Bill Richards for keeping time at all home games, Carl Hughes, John Smith, and Kenneth Lackey for helping as managers throughout the season. Our record for the 1953-54 season would be incomplete if we let the season records of Jim Scholter go unmentioned. Jim broke the season scoring record of our high school set by Don Hixon in the season of 1935-36. Jim scored 351 points this year to surpass Don's record of 326. Congratulations, Jim. We all will miss the graduating seniors, Jim Scholter, Ron Cooper, Al McGrath, and John Gilliland next year, but Coach Park has high hopes with letter- men Furl, Hughes, Pflugh, McCormick, James, and Wible returning. We would like to praise the players for a job well done, and in the following paragraph, we shall endeavor to give them the credit which they so justly deserve. Last of all, we wish to thank you, the Penn Township Basketball fan, for the loyal support you gave the team. We appreciate your patronage, and we shall do our best to produce basketball teams worthy of that support.

SECOND ROW: Coaches, Mr. Park, Mr. White, Nelson James, Brad Myers, Carl Pflugh, Jim McCormick, Curt Wible, Gary Weinzierl, Carl Hughes, Manager. This year Penn Township had the best Junior Varsity team in the history of the school. They finished the season with a fine 21 and 1 record. Their only loss came at the hands of a good Karns City team in the final game of the season. Several of the Junior Varsity players hope to be on the Varsity next year and they should be a big help to the team.
