Widmann drug More came to town during summer of 1978 They say the more things change, the more they stay the same. Ii seems that State College upholds this maxim very well, for although new buildings and businesses may be added downtown, the types of businesses never seem to vary much—most stores supply either munchies or amusement for the college stu- dent -you and me! Winter 1978 saw the opening of a renovated Train Station restaurant, complete with seating in an authentic caboose! The 1 rain Station both enlarged its scaling capacity and elaborated on the railroading theme, making it a classic in State College restau- rant architecture. Now Stare College hav a branch of the National Record Mart In Spring 1978. Wuv’s came to town, and beside it was a “facelift' on the ever popular Campus Casino, with room beneath for relocation of Schoolkids Records. Freshmen coming to Penn State in Fall 1978 weren't the only new kids in town. Widmann’s drug store and a branch of the National Record Mart, both located on College Avenue, had moved into State College. And along with finals at the end of fall term '78 came the opening of Pedro's—“the delicious taste of Ole Mexico”—providing another munch-out spot for study-crazed Penn Staters. These new places are really old friends- places to cat. drink and be merry-and escape the often grueling pace of college life. New Look 17

Converted house State College Remembered Ask any graduating senior if he’s going to miss State College and chances are he'll nod yes. While many students spend the better part of four years grumbling about the inadequacies of “urban State College, most are likely to have found at least one quality of this college town that will endear it to them. Slate College is different things to different students. Some students see it as “munchic-orientcd, catering to a wide variety of moods and tastes. Thoughts of math equations easily turn to thoughts of donuts and pizza, and many a student is found at the counter of Mister Donut or Bell’s Greek Pizza when he ought to be at the reference desk of Pattee. To other students. Stale College is “line-oriented.’’ The most blatant example of this side of State College can be seen on any given day at Mid-State and Rosy, or in the bookstores at the beginning and end of any term. Still others arc impressed by “outer State College. Be it a drive to Meyer’s Dairy for their famed ice cream or a hike up Mount Nittany. these students have found a spot—away from the bustle of College and Beaver Avenues-which is dear to them.
