This La Vie 1977 we dedicate to Ridge Riley, who furthered Penn State's traditions and ideals from his student days in the Class of 1932 until his death January 6. 1976. As Executive Director of the Penn State Alumni Associ- ation he devised innovative programs to promote alumni in- terest in University affairs. A former Collegian editor, he was concerned about campus activities, counseling with students individually in his Old Main office or as an adviser and mem- ber of the Board of Directors for La Vie. the Collegian. Lion's Paw. Thespians. Student Union, and of Theta Xi. his frater- nity. When he retired in 1970, alumni elected him to the Board of Trustees, where his aim continued to be to help fuse all elements of the University for the advancement of Penn State. Now a Penn State tradition himself. Ridge Riley will be re- membered especially for his weekly in-season Football Let- ters to alumni (1938-1975) and for the Alumni Memorial Scholarships first awarded in 1954 and expanded in 1976 through gifts to the University for the Ridge Riley Scholars Fund established in his memory.
