Each generation inherits a legacy of cus- toms. myths and legends, generating a sense of ad infinitam. Princeton, Yale, and Columbia are synonymous with the collegiate life style, but Penn State has its own recognizable conventions: football, fraternities, and weekend beer parties. To an outsider they appear untouched by time, but a preceptive observer can detect subtle altera- tions. Our football team has become a Saturday afternoon pastime for all America. Frater- nities now include charities among their notcable activities, and drinking ... well several new brand names have been added to the selection. There are other established traditions at Penn State that are part of the everyday routine, which have been a facted by the passing years. Courting techniques, fashions, and teaching methods have changed, but every Allege has seen modification, reforms and experimentation with old traditions. Some have been accepted I i ° others have failed. Penn State has established Colloquy as a new program, apartments have become a angible alternative to dorm living, und the voting registration lines equal the USG election queues.
