The answers rest with People. People try to make things change: the Washington moratoriums; a love-in rock festival at Woodstock; a new draft system; a plan for Viet- namization; anti-pollution campaigns. People find they can accomplish great things: a man on the moon.' People talk and label each other: effete snobs ; college bums ; the silent majority ; fascist pigs. People fight: in Vietnam and Cambodia; in the Middle East; at the Chicago riots; on the streets; on the campuses. People win: Richard Milhouse Nixon becomes President; Milton Shapp becomes Governor of Pennsylvania; the Cardinals, the Mets and the Orioles all gain the World Series title. People die: leaders like Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King; statesmen like Dwight D. Eisenhower, Charles DeCaulle and Gamal Abdul Nasser; controversial like Che Guevara and Ho Chi Minh; musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin; students at Kent State and Jackson State; soldiers in an endless battle. And students in isolated Happy Valley, at Penn State, are caught up in controversies and challenges. The Water Tunnel finds itself fight- ing for existance. Penn State students initiate student strikes and rallies to protest everything from the high prices of books and housing con- ditions to the Woodside Panel and low black student enrollment to the Indo-China War and the deaths at Kent State. The Nittany Lions earn the right to play twice at the Orange Bowl: and win. William Kuntsler, Bill Cosby, Van Cliburn, Edmund Muskie, Dionne Warwick, Chicago, the Fifth Dimension, Simon and Garfunkle and the cast of Hair visit Penn State. President Eric Walker retires and President John Oswald faces the challenge of an increasingly aware student populus. The answers rest with People. In a few years, students become People.
