Presiding at commencement exercises, President Walker, since 1956, has conferred degrees on 20,000 graduates DEDICATION Teacher, scholar, engineer, educator, adminis- trator, and sportsman-all characterize Dr. Eric A. Walker, president of The Pennsylvania State Uni- ver51ty. His zeal in championing those measures that contribute to the growth and stature of Penn State, both material and intellectual, has made him an outstanding president. Born in Long Eaton, England, and reared in Wrightsville, Pa., Dr. Walker received his bachelor of science degree from Harvard University in 1932. His masters degree in business administration was . conferred the following year and his doctorate in r i engineering in 1935, also by Harvard. In 1945, Dr. Walker came to Penn State with Students confer on Dr. Walker the honorary title of Prexy the Ordnance Research Laboratory. He served as on eve of his inauguration as 12m president of Penn State director 0f the Laboratory and also as meessor and head of the department of electrical engineering until 1951 when he was named dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture. He was appoint- ed vice-president of the University in 1956, and on Oct. 1, 1956, was named president. Students in 1957 conferred on him the title of UPrexy, an honor only the students can confer. In recognition of his many accomplishments during his First Five years as president of The Penn- sylvania State University, we are pleased to dedi- cate this volume, the 1962 LA VIE, to Dr. Eric A. Walker, 3 leader in higher education in Pennsyl- vania and in the Nation.
