Amung these have heen the qunt'hing of satellites whieh huv: marked the heginning of the szu-e Age. In this revolutionary era of scientifle progress. great emphasis has heen placed on the training: uf men and women for eareers in the technical fields. Special attention has heen focused on teaching at all levels. Progress in mum areas has tended to lead toward greater specialization. Our University during the past year has eempleted zl lnng-rnnge plun. preparing: to meet the needs of the people of the Ctnnmonwealth. lm'reusing enrollments already are a pmhlem on the campus and developments in varieus fields have hruught growing demands for reseurt'h and atlult education services. In the umlergruduate pmgram today. new emphasis is placed on general education with the thought that while college graduates must he spet'ialisls in their chosen fields. they must have, also, an understanding of u the hmmt fields of knowledge. Just as many pieces of varied sizes and Shapes make up the intrit-ute Chinese puzzle, knowledge in many areas is essential to the educated man. As we mark the completion of our formal mllege education, we r tulize that education must he a t'mllinuing pret'ess. If we have acquired an understanding in hmad flelds of knowledge, we will find We are prelmred to cuntinue our education as well as to meet the mounting problems of living in a complex and ever-vhunging t'ivilizut ion.
