DEDICATION TO OUR UNIVERSlTv: Founded in 1855, nearly a century ago, The Pennsvh'ania State University was chartered as The Farmers' High School Of Pennsvh'nniu, since it 11111.9 leared that humers might he prejudiCed against sending their 5011.9 to 11 college. By 1862, however, with the largest enrollment 0F any school 0F its kind in the country, The Farmers' High School became The Agricultural College Of Pennsylvania. The following year it 11119 designated the Land Grant college of Penn- sylvania under the provisions of the Morrill Act of 1862. Because the 11100111111 0F studv embraced many fields, Other than 110riCulture, it seenmci advisable in 1874 to Change the name to The Pennsylvania State College.
