Planning a tricky Blue Band formation for Beaver Field At the keyboard, Hum entertains faculty and students D e d iC a t io n mm- mg: wawwzmvmmmeammaww As a student, assistant to the Dean of Men, and professor and head of the De- partments of Music and Music Education, Dr. Hummel Fishbum has been an active part of Penn State for more than 30 years. Born in Washington, D. C., IIum enrolled at Penn State in 1918. As an under graduate he was active in the Blue Banal, Thespians, and other musical organizations. Receiving his bachelor of arts degree in 1922, Hum was named assistant to the Dean of Men and an assistant in the Department of Music. He was awarded his master of arts degree in music in 1925 and the following year accepted an appomt- ment as director of music in the Chester, Pa public schools. Dr. Fishhurn returned to the campus in 1929 as assistant professor of music and music education and since 1943 has been head of the Departments of Music and Music Education. During his years on the campus, Hum has been a leader in various activities with students. He has directed the faststepping Blue Band and continues to work out the intricate formations for football games. He also has directed the College Sym- phony Orchestra as well as various monk and women's choral groups. He has been
