The resignation of the Hig as head grid coach on March 12, 1949, drew The curtain on a collegiate career which spanned 35 years. He coached at West Virginia Wes- EYOH and Washington University, and in 1928 was named assistant coach under U90 Bezdek at his Alma Mater. Then, in 1930, he climbed into the top position. bon As head coach, Higgins faced the purity wave in Eastern collegiate foot- Fro Gnd the depression, which combined to the detriment of the Nittany pigskin, O 'Ti 930 to 1937, the dark ages in Penn State football, Higgins had ample mpportunity to -develop his well-known gridiron philosophy: A team not only thust be good, it also must be lucky to win all its games.
