llllllllllllllrlh THIS YEAR in which we are living is a significant milestone for the 20th Century. Marking the close of five decades of phenomenal progress in all fields, it heralds at the same time the advent of another half-century which portends even greater advancement. For the World, our Nation, and our State, l95O holds out new hopes for the attainment of enduring peace and a meaningful brotherhood, of in- dustrial and political unanimity, of great scientific and medical discoveries, of the dispelling of deep-seated ignorance by striding educative processes. For our College, l95O is a significant year. lt marks the beginning of the administration of a new president, an era that promises progress. The completion of a great building program is at hand and already future ex- pansion, and consequently increased service to the Commonwealth, is in sight. Student enrollment, the scope of the educational program, and re- search and extension work can be expected to continue their advance at a rate unparalleled in the College's history. This year of l95O is also a momentous stepping-stone for our class. The end has suddenly come to fleeting and carefree undergraduate days--days enlivened by athletic triumphs, houseparties, bull sessions, and stimulating classes, days clouded by blue books, bruising defeats, and a few far-from- stimulating lectures. New adventures call, new responsibilities thrust them- selves forward. The staff of the l95O LA VIE has attempted to reflect in the following pages this surging wave of growth, progress, co-operation, and service. May your yearbook prove an incentive and inspiration as you go your separate way, striving to make your place in the sun of the future.
