FOR THE AVERAGE MAN, college extra-curricular activities end with student days. When Neil Fleming received his diploma from Penn State in June, 1914, his association with undergraduate affairs had just begun. Now, after 27 years, no administrative official of the College comes any closer to the core of student life. On the 0utside-in the sports world-Neil Fleming is better known as the man responsible for the athletic policies of Penn State. For 22 years, longer than any other eastern Official in a similar capacity, he has served as graduate manager of athletics. He stands at the top among those who have advanced the cause of intercollegiate sport and upheld the best in college athletics. On the campus, Mr. Flemingis contact with undergraduate life is made even closer through his position as treasurer of student activities. He has guided the intricate affairs of all undergraduate publications, class dances, dramatic groups, student government, and Student Union. Through the years, Neil Fleming has been largely responsible for the efficient manner in which student activities are handled. He planned and put into practice Penn Stateis athletic team managerial system, recognized as a plan unexcelled the country over. He helped to organize the Student Union and served as its first manager. He planned the Inter-class Budget system and has served as its first and only graduate treasurer. These multiple achievements he would call iipart of his job, and for this students respect and admire him. To Neil Fleming, for his friendship, his advice, his tolerance-which have gone far beyond the mere duties of his oHiceethe senior staff of the LA VIE, acting for the Penn State student body, dedicates this book.
