Skis; 44s 7?.th :14; h 91mm EM ORE; 0:9me HISTORY OF 1 901. The goal has been reached; our preliminary struggle is over. The first connnencement of the century is at hand. and we are proud of the fact that we have the privilege of going into the world at such zm opportune time. Our record in the past has been of such a nature that we may readily fall in with the spirit of the com- ing century. Our first claim to any recognition was our defeating 1900 on the gridiron. Many heartfelt thanks to the yeoman service rendered us by some of the prep. class. who practically won our game for us. Jut we got the credit, so who cares. We held our banquet at Altoona on schedule time. while the Sophs searched in vain for us at Lemont. The next feat we endeavored to accomplish proved quite suc- cessful, for we captured the Interclass Basket Ball cup before springtime came with all its troubles. Our 25

last great struggle with our enemy, the Sophs, oc- curred after many a sleepless night. They were re- warded by seeing our Hag Hy t0 the breeze. Thus we hnished our first year of trials. hVith the advent of 1902 we soon began to sug- gest rules, even though they did ignore them. It was during this term that we often showed the Freshies the intricate passageways 0f the vicinity and taught them the necessity of climbing poles and de- livering stump speeches. These abnoxious Freshies, however, proved themselves a nuisance 0n the grid- iron some time later, and. finally, after playing a game of three halves in one afternoon, with the snow four inches deep and the mercury near zero, we clearly saw that they were our equals. even though we had the assistance of a Junior quarterback to direct our playing. So we left the game to arbitration, which resulted in Freshmen canes in the Spring term. Our record was quite horribly marred, however, by a de- feat in basket ball at the hands of our old enemies, 1900. The hag scrap with 1902 was a warm one, in- deed. and even though we succeeded in tearingr their 26 Hag they still retained possession of it. Our record in the Interelass contest clearly showed signs of pre- mature decay, since 1900 and 1902 simply ran away with everything. XVith this event past, we soon posed as dignified Juniors. XVe again clearly demonstrated that we could play basket ball, by taking the cup dur- ing both our Junior and Senior years, and now with true pride we rest on our oars and glance at the on- coming horde in its fierce struggles. wVe have been unusually fortunate in having the moralizing infiuenee of the society of coeeds, and no doubt the future will reveal the sequel to a few of the lasting friendships that were formed here. In common with our predecessors, we have shared the tearful memories of examinations. Many green tickets have been distributed among us. with- out even a request, but such is our fate, so we bow to it and look forward to something brighter. And now, as we are about to go out into the world to show ourselves as men and women, it is with a feeling of regret that we are forced to say farewell to our Alma Mater.
