These morale builders do more, however, than their snappy marching down the gridiron. ln the spring after long months of tedious preparation, they give, under Miss Funfer's leader- ship, a concert that equals that of a professional organization. We admire this group. K-M-E-ISH Club The Commercial Club, sponsored by Miss Liberty Costas and lcd by its president, Shirley Sugden, prepares its members for future success as office workers. This is achieved by exposing them to the practical experience of cutting stencils, mimeographing, hectographing, and acting as secretaries to the various teachers. Moreover, they are acquainted with the primary requisites of an interview and visit sundry busi- ness schools to increase their knowledge of secre- tarial duties. Because a successful production of a play involves such diverse talents, it involves many persons. First, there are the actors who learn to depict character through force of emotion. Then there are the equally im- portant, but less conspicuous persons, who give ceaseless assistance. For instance, the stage crew is one of the less-exalted groups. Then, too, the make-up committee with their skilled Hngers perform a delicate but important task. 'lihere are others who receive very little fame or glory- the clever minds from which the publicity origi- nates, the inventive genius of the sound-effects men, the program composers, and certainly the attentive audience itself. To inspire Penn's students to acquire knowl- edge in the art of dramatics the Cue and Curtain was instituted. Here at various periods the members can develop those hidden talents. Moreover, through play production the most interested ones can find enjoyment in acting. Under Miss Hazel Brush's efforts the juniors presented june Mad , a rollicking comedy. It revolved about Penny CNancy Muenchj, an adolescent girl with an astonishing imagination. Throughout the play Penny's escapades-the infatuation for an older man and the incident of the strapless, red evening gown-sent the audience into gales of laughter mingled with sympathy for Penny's naiveness. Eventually, however, she discovered that the boy next door , Chuck C-lack Sablej, was the one she really cared for. All who witnessed this remarkable perform- ance will long remember it. Furthermore, the senior play, Don't Take My Penny, ably directed by Miss Audrey McLaren, showed Penny fRuth Romishj a small town Miss, having lofty ambition of starring as Dimity West in a motion picture. However, her boyfriend, Kerry Qjim Masonj had other plans, and the circumstances produced by his efforts to disillusion Penny as to a glamor girl's life are, indeed, humorous. The success of this play was due to the splendid cooperation by everyone. Carry on Penn's tradition, Cue and Curtain members! CUE AND CURTAIN l ms'r Row: R. jones, M. Whitaker R. Romish, R.
