Dear Diary. I learned to dancef-lt was the Senior 'lea Dance. l had the most dee-vine timel lt was held in the gym liriday afternoon after school, and all the girls. looking their prettiest, bit fingernails all through classes looking forward to the big event. The only thing that spoiled it was the rain. But dancing with your best boy friend, who cares about the rain? Diary, there's a new romance in the class. lt's a secret: but the boy is one of our best- lookers. a cheerleader. by the way, and the girl has beautiful naturally curly hair, and Diary. would you believe it, they meet each other after classes every dayf 'l'he newly organized Student Council gave a Hallowe'en party for the school. lt was a masquerade, and you should have seen Clarence Bowers in a long, white nightgown with a bonnet and baby bottlef lle was a screamf liveryone's costume added to the ghostly air that prevailed throughout the halls. but we managed to live through the evening of witches and goblins and the scares in the Chemistry lab. l blush with shame when I look at my grades for this year. especially l.atin1 but at least l'll remember my Sophomore year for the good times l had. if not for the good grades l made. A Sophomore l 9 3 2-193 3 Dearest Diary- Vvlell, the half is overf lhere are two more quarters to playf-so our class elected Bob Smith as president, Paul Ralston as vice president. Bob Gillespie as secretary, and lfarle Cook as treasurer to carry our team through the third quarter. How can we help but win with Miss Key as ottr coachf Oh Diary. l'm so thrilledT l was one of the many extras in the big production, Hliood News. XVe practiced tgoodby markslr. and practiced tthere go tive more poundsl, and practiced tOh well. the play's the thingfut. But it was a huge success, so we were repaid for all our hard work, After a fairly successful football season. we latinched upon the sea of basketball- and if any one had walked into ll. ll, S. on a certain day in March during chapel. he would have heard the shouts and applause of eight hundred turbulent students ringing in his ears. Page 23 because-do you know what, Diary?-we won the Mercer County Basketball Champion- ship!! Think of it! Oh. there never were such thrilling games as in that tournament. And were we proud? Why, we'll gloat over this victory for years! Every time I see one of our champs my heart turns flip-Hops. Which reminds me-I must get Jim McElree to explain this game called basketball to me. I never could understand it. Well, time kept on flying, and we put on our Junior class play, Hero Is As Hero Does. You should have seen what the hero did do! Anyway, the play went over with a bang because of the Hne work of the cast and the able direction of Miss Harman. And now. to climax a year full of fun and hard work, we come to the Junior-Senior Prom! What a dance it was! Soft lights-sweet music-gay chatter-bright colors: it was a dream. We decorated the gym in pink 'n'white and yellow 'n' white, and danced to the music of Bruce Fye, and Diary, you'd never guess- I was allowed to have my first backless dress! It was grand! Every one agreed that it was the most dazzling From that many a Penn Junior or Senior has seen. Next year I'll be a Senior. I wonder what it will be like. A Junior 1933-1934 My Dear Diary: Am I dignified! Being a Senior of course, I must maintain a superior air toward my under-classmen. The year started off just grand. At the first class meeting we elected Fred Rudisill, president: Pauline Ralston, vice president: Ruth Kays. secretary: and Irene Davis. treasurer. Miss Mowry was then presented to us as our new adviser. Knowing her as we do in the classroom, we feel assured of a year full of pleasure and success. Oh, Diary! There is the most marvelous person in school! So handsome! So fascinat- ing! Even his name is romantic. It's Monk McClure, our new Chemistry teacher. Isn't that divine? He recites yards and yards of l-I:SO,'s and NA CL's, and I can just feel my heart stop beating when he calls on me in class. It's so thrilling! Early in October a certain hustle and bustle began around the school. We all knew what that meant-another Lynch-Kearns show was beginning its rehearsals. The Follies was a grand production, bringing much praise to the directors and the school. Merrie Christmas! Happy New Year! The Seniors took everybody on a trip to the frozen North where they were throwing the Snow-Ball . And, Diary, Mr. McClure was there! He looked so handsomegjust like a movie star. But, Diary, 1 am heart broken. He is going to be married. Icried for two hours when I heard about it. I see I'm to be an old maid with nothing to remember my romance by except a worn-out report card. The members of our class known as the Rimplegar family gave the audience plenty of laughs when theylput on the annual play, Three-Cornered Moon. What a night! land income, too.j The glory of it all belongs to our director, Mrs. Kearns. The Senior play over, work UQ began on the Year Book. The staff spent night after night of hard work, and finally brought out the 1935 edition of the Pennerian. Finally, after four years of hard work, fun, with only vague memories of such things as the referendum, the value of X, and split inlinitives. I come to the Great Day. In a whirl- wind of activities, new clothes, graduation gifts, sorrows at leaving, and expectations for that to come, I am properly graduated along with almost one hundred and fifty classmates. saying goodby to P. l-I.
