Ajuniors Charles Perry and Terry Meacham in authentic Czarist Russian costumes for UA Marriage Proposalw, the final play of the season. .Iudy Stoeckinger, Chris Romeu, Terry Harner, and Iludy Davis were featured in the WOvertones , The second production of the evening was entitled HThe Twelve Pound Lookw and was written by Sir james M. Barrie. It had a moralistic theme and the leading actors who helped to bring this theme to the audience were David Chastain as Sir Harry Simms, Patricia Hahn as Lady Simms, and Barbara Myers as Kate. Third on the program was uOvertones by Alice Ger- stenberg. It depicted the suppressed feelings and thoughts of people in todayas world. The actresses who contributed to its success werelludy Davis as Margaret, Terry Harner as Maggie Cher primitive selfb, Judy Stoeckinger as Har- riet, and Chris Romeu as Hetty Qher primitive selfj. Last to be presented was the classic MA Marriage Proposal by Anton Chekhov. It was a descriptive view of everyday life in Czarist Russia. Starring in the play were Charles Perry as Stepan Stepanovitch Tschubukov, Terry Meacham as Natalia Stepanovna, and Phil God- dard as Ivan Vassiliyitch Lomov. Debate Coach Mrs. Betty Smith assists sophomore debater Terry Shaller with the selection of research materials for the upcoming radio debate tournament. Sophomore Steve Mechling and senior .lack Hiler were two of the very dependable AV corps. Under the direction of Mr. Larry Nifong student operators served teachers with AV equipment. Here Steve andllack are upset with a mess of film. Senior debaters Phil Goddard and Virgil Wesco are all business as they spend after-school time in individual briefing sessions. Both Phil and Virgil were varsity debaters for three years. Phil Goddard and Virgil Wesco won 85'Z1 of their debates this year. They won l00'Z1 of their debates in the St. joseph Valley League. Linda Chapman and Terry Shaller won 5O'70 of their debates and were the second best two-man team on the debate squad this year. Other debaters this year were Judy Davis and Dave Cropsey. The Goddard- Wesco team also won the WSBT Radio Debates to put Penn in the Finals on television. Other achievements of members of the team include: Phil Goddard: SIVL Discussion Contest, lst place. Sons of the American Revolution Douglas C. High National Oratorical Contest, 2nd place in the state. Terry Shaller: SJVL After-dinner speaking, 3rd place. SAIVL Extemporaneous speaking, 5th place. Virgil Wesco: SJVL Discussion Contest, 3rd place. The four-man team of Linda Chapman, Phil Goddard, Terry Shaller, and Virgil Wesco won the Speech Sweepstakes in the St. Joseph Valley League. They also placed in more contests than any other school in the league. Sophomore cheerleader Dawn Gardner does an individual routine in the annual cheerleading- tryout pep session. For the second year Dawn was selected by the students to serve as a varsity cheerleader. l 83
