With a starting lineup composed of one senior and four underclassmen, and with an entire varsity squad that boasted only four seniors on the roster, those two victories rank as somewhat of an achievement. However, it was not the two victories, but probably a loss that ranked as the most outstanding game of the season. Saddled with a 2-18 regular season, the Kingsmen came into the Elkhart sectional as a definite underdog. Facing tough Elkhart, a team we had lost to by 31 points during the regular season, it would have taken an almost superhuman effort to repeat as titlist. The boys almost came through. Playing the host Blazers to a standstill during the middle two periods after falling down by five points after the first period, it took a last period rally for Elkhart to defeat our determined Kingsmen, 64-51. Despite los- ing the contest, coach Bob Bradyfs Kingsmen played one of the better games, of the campaign, clipping 18 points OH the Elkhart margin of victory in our First meeting. Our First victory of the season was perhaps the most thrilling of the two wins. After a rather disappointing 84f46 loss to South Bend Washington in our opener, we be- gan our home campaign by tripping Michigan City St. Mary's 78-73. With Paul Minne and senior Dick Fulmer leading the way with 21 points each, we came back from a 36-33 halftime deficit to win. However, with our record evened at 141, the best it was to be all season long, we then hit a slump, losing our next 11 games in a row. Following a narrow loss to LaVille and that setback at Elkhart, we then fell to arch-rival Mishawaka in a double overtime thriller and lost to tough South Bend Riley byjust two points. Other losses in the string were to Adams and St. Joseph in the Mishawaka Holiday tourney, a 33 point setback at Plymouth, and losses to LaPorte, New Carlisle, Nap- panee, and Central. 65

Penn uintet Wz'ns usz' Two in J55-356 FOLLOW THE LEADER? Riley's Bob Churchwell f54j and Tom Putt seem to be playing follow the leader as they fight Penn forward Paul Niinne for a rebound, Minne won the battle. With our record standing at 1-12, we then won our only other game of the season, rapping jackson, 79-53 behind the 19 point efforts of senior star.Don Holmes andjunior center Ron Frantz. Despite playing their best ball of the season in the last seven outings, the team dropped all seven, several in thrillers. A poor Penn second period helped Concord slip past us, Bremen rallied in the third period to trip us by 13 points, and St. joseph's needed a last ditch rally to nip our spirited Kingsmen by a trio of points. We concluded the regular season with a pair of close setbacks, losing to Niles 74-70 despite Holmes' scor- ing a school record 44 points, and lost a 72-70 thriller to Clay. Coach Brady will have back eight of his 12 varsity members for this winter, as he losesjust Holmes, Fulmer, Ron Armour and Glen Stevenson. Varsity members re- turning are Frantz, Phil Singleton, Steve Rockenbaugh, Tim Clark, Minne, Gary Wordinger, Gary Shanklin, and Roger Weldy.
