A behind the scenes candid camera shot of a typical second hour band rehearsal. 'lStrike up the band. From August and Riverview until June and Commencement melodic strains from the uMarching Kingsmenn QConcert Band? were heard. Under the direction of Mr. Donald Kutchback, the mem- bers ofthe band again distinguished themselves. The bandis imaginative schedule included half-time shows at Penn's football games and the ever-present pep band during the cage season. Football fans cheered band performances featuring music from Mary Poppins and james Bond themes. The Pennettes, with umbrella ac- cessories, contributed to the effectiveness of the Mary Poppins' numbers, while strains of Gold Finger and jamaica jump-Up were immediately identified by foot- ball fans as music from the popular james Bond series. October will be remembered by band members for their trip to Ball State for Band Dayn. November and December were busy months for practice, practice, and more practice. Seniors who played for four years in the band were given sweater awards following the Winter Ma rch- irig Kirzgs in the tina! Paraa'e! Donald Kutchback, Penn band director, is interviewed by senior band member Sarajane Smith concerning the 6500 Festival Parade. Penn participated in the Indianapolis parade for the first time this year. Concert injanuary. April was another busy month. On April 13, the band featured the Great Race March during an all-student convo. On the 16, they participated in the state contest and on the 24 they entertained the public with the annual Spring Concert playing music from The Apartment theme. Perhaps the highlight of the year was the participa- tion of the 4'Marching Kingsmenl' in the Indianapolis SOO Festival Parade. This was another Penn first. Only 33 bands are included in the H5007 Eleven from Marian County, eleven from the rest of the state of In- diana, and eleven from out of state. The '6500', Festival Parade this year had additional interest and significance because this year Indiana celebrated its sesquicentennial birthday. mean Strut Their Stujjf 'GOOD Fes
