Team captain Gary McCam- mon, teaming up with fellow seniors Wally Steibritz, Tom Rentschler, and Ray Golata, were the mainstays of the team during the season. Acting as the team's fifth man was junior Craig Fanning, who led the squad in number of matches won. Ron Whitney and Den- nis Myers, two other underclassmen on the team this past season, should per- form capably again this fall. Fanning was chosen to captain this year's team.

Playing under new head football coach Robert Ward for the First time, the PHS '65 football team started slowly and then blossomed into form, compiling a 4-5-1 record. With hard-charging senior fullback Steve Hohl leading the way, the Kingsmen scored impressive wins over Plymouth Q21-UD, New Carlisle Q33-7Q, St. -Ioseph, Michigan Q13-75, and grabbed a thrilling 15-13 triumph over Clay on a safety by senior tackle Earl Slater. Losses included a narrow season opening 13-7 setback at Hunt- ington, a 25-0 shutout by powerful Riley, a 20-7 loss to St. Joseph after trailing just 7-0 at halftime, a 20-0 blanking by a strong Goshen team and a 21-2 setback to Richomnd. The season was concluded with a hard fought 0-0 tie with city rival Mishawaka on Tupper Field in Mishawaka. The game was the Hrst between the Kingsmen and Maroons. Hohl ended the season as the leading ground gainer and also had the best rushing average. Quarterback Dave Risner, despite missing several games with an injury, provided excellent signalcalling, and All-County players Glen Stevenson at end and Larry Jennings at center were mainstays of the team. Junior Tom Comfort, a starting guard, was named to captain the ,66 team.
