English Students Enlarge Their V0eaI9uZem'es Mrs. Thelma Barber, Penn's senior English teacher. aids students in their vocabulary studies. An effective vocabulary is invaluable to college bound students. The Social Studies Department was characterized for the second straight year by the team teaching instructional approach. This approach has proved more efficient than the regular teaching approach. The history department devised an Mhonors classl' for juniors who were considered capable of doing excellent academic work. There was also the regular team teaching performed in the other history classes. The senior stu- dents were required to take government and economics. This course included a Hproblem solving approach during the second semes- ter. A social studies course is offered to every grade level at Penn. The teachers in the de- partment include: Miss Slaby, Mr. Bolen, Mr. Cierzniak, Mr. Phillips, Mr. Hurst, Mr. Quimby, Mr. Slater, Mr. Ward and Mr. Schmucker. Mr. Robert Ward. varsity football head coach and social studies prof, points out an important geographical loca- tion as three of his interested students look on. Nlr.
