Physics teacher, Mr. Frank Matthews, demonstrates for physics students Don Porter, Torn Rentschler, ,lim Newcomer, and fvlike Hurtekant the use of the rangefinder, The Penn campus offers many opportunities for outdoor experiments. 20 With the space age booming ahead, many students find that science and math can lead to a prohtable and fascinating vocation. Many new and challenging problems confront us begging to be solved. We are faced with the task of learning how to use many new and complicated mechanisms. The paper and pencil method of working a math problem has given way to the computer. The sciences have also changed a great deal. The chemist in working with more and new elements, the biologist has to concern himself with sustaining the lives of many more people, and the physicist must now concern himself with outer space. Math and science majors find Penn's science de- partment superb and undoubtedly receive a strong background for college. The sciences taught at Penn include biology, chemistry, advanced chemistry, and physics. Every year the science department sponsors the annual Science Fair. This gives students the opportunity to explore and experiment by using their own ingenuity. The benehts received from this experimentation prove invaluable in helping a stu- dent to think and reason on his own.

Penn students let off steam during Penn pep sessions and gave their team the backing they needed. Each pep session was highlighted by a skit given by each in- dividual class. The skits were written by the students themselves and proved to be very original and interesting. Their main purpose, however, was to increase school spirit and give more support to the team. The students should be commended for their eiiorts in backing our athletic teams. Traditionally seniors have been noted for their leader- ship, Each year seniors buy their senior cords and decorate them to their own tastes according to what they have done in the past four years. Cords are to be worn to school on black and white days as a sign of Hschool spirit. Linda Dillion demonstrates in speech class the proper grooming of a dog. Speech class students are given much credit for originality. Various Scenes wma! School ay Senior class president, Richard Worthington, tries to quiet his audience as he reads the senior class creed during a pep session skit. Sue Holycross and her brother Robert work diligently to make sure they get their evening tasks finished, School begins Qglgy early in the morning.
