W'ayne North 26 26 St. Joseph CMichj 67 67 Laporte 28 29 Valparaiso 66 54 Elkhart 41 Added new faces to the many that came to Penn via ath- letics the past year were swimming coach Tom Swem and assistant Walt Jurkiewicz. Although the team turned in only a 4-8 record, the two swim mentors were blessed with spectacular Dave Powell. Dave closed out his high school career by finishing second and third in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events in the state championship meet. Last year he became the first Penn athlete to capture a state title when he won the 400 -yard freestyle event in the state finals. Daveas younger brother, sophomore Bart, also traveled to the state meet. Also contributing to the 464-'65 squad were divers Bud Moore and Paul Holsinger, Rick Eslinger, Jim Meisenhelder, Bill Healy, co-captain Steve Sager, and,Craig and Guy Fanning. .7 l State champion 400 yard freestyler Dave Powell assists brother Bart after an after-school practice. The Powell brothers were both qualifiers for the state swim meet. W 4 Senior swimmers on this year's varsity squad were Rick Eslinger Steve Sager, Dave Powell and Bill Healy.
