We Shuuu Ed Bessinger and Phil Allen go for the loose ball during the torrid fourth quarter of the Penn-Elkhart game. sEcTloNAL scoREBoARD PENN-64 ELKHART-62 'iVVe knew we could do itf' These words by coach Bob Brady characterized the competitive desire of the 'Fightin' Kingsmen' of '65. A snow storm and an unimpressive season's record didn't daunt the Bradymen who climaxed sectional play with an unforgetable 64-62 win over peren- nial sectional champion Elhart. To earn the right to play in the championship game the Penn five sidetracked the Jimtown quin- tet 89-42 and eliminated the 'Bulldogsl of Nap- panee 67-61 in a snow-delayed semi-final tilt. Led by the one-two scoring punch of Phil Allen and Stan Yoder our Kingsmen out-rebounded, out-scored, and out-hustled the sectional opposi- tion. Never-to-be forgotten moments included the shooting spree of Phil Allen in the Nappanee game. His 35 point performance tied an Elkhart Sectional record. In the unusual Monday night final Phil and his shootin' buddy Stan combined for 44 points. The superb rebounding job of co- captain Dick Marvel and the floor leadership of Don Holmes assured Penn Boosters and fans of a. game to remember. Beating the Blazers not only guaranteed our Kings- men a shot at the regional crown but made it possible for two St. Joseph County teams fPenn. and South Bend Washingtonj to meet for the first time in an Elkhart Regional. Telegrams of congratulations, banners of encourage- ment from tourney schools, and thousands of happy fan comments contributed in making the 1965 Sectional win a great profile in Penn's sports his- tory. . , ' ssenmq CHAA., 4 5'7 eS gifs Q, - an .
