'PEW-W . ids I 's I-I V ,a ,VQWGA The Department of Industrial Edu- cation has not only expanded its facilities but also its curriculum emphasis. Included in the depart- ment are vocational training classes, industrial arts classes and general exploratory shop classes. Perhaps the most important con- cern of the department is job train- ing. Boys enrolled in industrial edu- cation classes are more employable which is important in highly com- petitive industry. Area school vocational arts instruc- tors find the Penn program worthy of emulation. Department chairman Mr. C. A. Needler is assisted by in- structors Benning, Behrens, Haines, Nifong, O'Connor, Parker, Portolese, and Wlolfe. Course offerings include Trade Machine Shop, Trade Draft- ing, 'Trade Wood Shop, and Trade Auto Shop. Auto Shop, Drafting, 1 Wood Shop, Electric Shop, VVelding, and Practical Arts complete the program. Mr. Wolfe, auto shop instructor, points out an important lubrication spot to auto shop student Kenny Welsh. Gary Johnson, Mr. Tony Portolese, and Herman Christy have everything and the kitchen sink. Nick Strombeck, a Trade IV Machine Shop student, operates a vertical milling machine in roughing out a. 4 throw crank shaft for an experimental engine. Dan Therrien is assembling cyclinder inserts to the experimental engine he and Nick Strombeck developed in the machine shop. Industrial Education director Mr. C. A. Needler registers his approval. Jim Liepold, and Randy Kuntz get some Lights, Action, WELDING! first hand experience in carburetor ad- justment. 31
