Fresh- men enter the high school world of social studies via guidance and citizenship. VVorld history and world geography are offered to sophomores. The required United States history' course is given in the junior year and the seniors study psychology and sociology in addition to the required govern- ment and economics courses. Mr. Paul Schmucker, chairman of the department, predicts even greater expansion in the near fu- ture. He is assisted in the department by Mr. Bolen, Mr. Cierzniak, Miss Cox, Mr. Hurst, Mr. Musil, Mr, Phillips, Mr. Quimby, Mr. Slater, and Mr. Ward. In addition to the regular staff Stanley, Adsit, Marilyn Hatton, Kathleen O'Neal, Paul Hutchins, and Art Smoker worked and taught in the department as student teachers. To be eligible for the annual social studies award given on senior achievement day a student must have at least eight credits in social studies.
