Membww Do you want to be a teacher? Then you've probably heard of Peninsula's FTA-Future Teachers ot America. Maybe you're even a member. FTA is an ambitious club. To get the year off to a rolling start, a banquet was planned by the officers: presidentJuli Skansie, vice president Cindy Radonich, secretary Mary Stone, treasurer Janet Henry, historian Diana Bretsen, and activity chairman Dale Severson. The banquet wasn't for old members only, it was for new ones too, and was a great idea for recruiting new people. The club also served coffee and rolls to the hungry adults taking evening classes. This was a different and prosperous money-making project. Then members tried out their talents on Student Day when they joined with Torch to relieve the regular teachers of their responsibilities. They visited Truman School, too, where they observed different teaching skills. And they held a panel with Curtis High School to ex- change ideas to make the club a better one for all. Of course, if you are in FTA, you know that none of this could have happened if it hadn't been for Mrs. Ruth Crook, advisor. She keeps the club moving at a successful pace for future years. lf you want to be a teacher, this is the club tor you. ' and I Torch Club president Bill Crounse. A brand new idea that came from the Torch Board was the l pancake supper held after a basketball game in January. The L success of this project helped Torch to bring needed money into the student fund. Torch's most widely enjoyed activity was Grub Day, when students could wear cut-offs to school for a slight fee. The club also spent an evening at an orphanage entertaining and cheering up the children. Then to finish the year, the annual Torch banquet was held in the spring. Torch was certainly busy this year and is getting busier all the time. Wouldn't you say this was a worthwhile organization? 29
