A Decade of Progress The smell of fresh paint was prominent in the long winding halls of Central High School. Everything from the Hagpole in front of the buiiding t0 the pencil Sharpeners in the classrooms was shiny new. It was 1954 and Central was making a fresh start. Upon her opening day she was a baby, with no previous history. But as soon as young voices were reverberating within her walls, her history already was being built. The students immediately put Centraiis vocational and academic training to use Wheels began turning in the pupils, minds as well as in the shops. Central was young and there was a certain enthusiasm in each person to make her a school of which they could be proud. Today i+ is a familiar sigh+ in Hue morning +0 see young people climbing +he lengfhy sfeps +0 +he Jren year old building on +he hill. Yes, Central has matured. She now is an established vocational school wi+h +radi+ions of her own. She has sen+ many young men and women 0qu into fine world: and each is, +0 +his day. grateful ior +he vocational +raining he received here. Many changes and Jrrr'jnsiJrions have +aken place in the pasi' Jren years. Some depari- ments have been dropped. and others added. Along with new ciasses have come diHereni equipmeni and a differeni appearance of class- rooms. The s+uden+s are basically Jrhe same as +hose of ten years ago wereethey iusi look different Fads and fashions have varied. going from one ex+reme +0 anoiher. Some new clubs have been added +0 our schooi and many old ones sfill remain. Central High School is cons+an+ly advancing and endeavoring +0 keep up wi'rh +he rest of +he modern world. She realizes ihai a solid educaiion is becoming a necessity in our times. Progress is improvement. Since l954 Ceniral has moved upward +0 a higher level. This has indeed been a decade of progress.
