On the night of January 12, 1957, the Pendleton Irish Varsity proved themselves to be the best of the tour teams at the Pendleton Invitational Tourney. The victory was a great one for the Irish, enabling them to keep the trophy at Pendleton tor the first time since 1946. Lots of hard work on the part of the ballplayers and Coach Dan Dimich, plus the sore throats of many Cheer Block members pulled the Irish through. Their fine performance really gave the fans some- thing tor which to RISE and CHEER. They're our Irish! '56 Q 1., WLM W 'W 2, ,,-. A Y. ,, ,..M 1f'iT 9 ' 7 .1 4 . All 200 members of the Block are joined together with a mutual purpose-backing the team. Hand motions, row stunts, trumpet calls, yells, white blouses and shirts, senior girls in yellow skirts, senior boys in white cords are some of the things that make Cheer Block the colorful organization that it is. But more im- portant than all of this is the feeling that each Block member has for the Irish and forthe school. Cheer Block will always stand ready and waiting to cheer the Irish on to victory and to promote school spirit in all things. This year we found our- selves in that big building called the High School. We had countless prob- lems such as on-coming upper class- men, remembering our locker num- bers, and realizing that study halls are for studying. One Thomas Edison in a generation is no longer enough to sustain our kind of progress -today we literally need thousands of well- tmined young people with the kind of vision, imagination and courage that took Edison on his lifelong conquest of the unknown. 'tThis is why I am constantly urging boys and girls to go on to as full an education as possible-not only in science and engineer- ing, but in the arts, the social sciences, the humanities or any other field that fits their talents ..,. -By Charles F.
