CLASS PROPHECY I don t know to th1S day what prompted me to turn down that dark street on the West Slde of Chlcago that day ln 1960 but I d1d I had almost dec1ded to turn back when I heard a sharp rappmg on a wmdow Lookmg up I saw a face peerlng out at me and then a halnd motlonlng me to come ln I glanced up at the door and saw the Slgn Fortune Telllng I have never been one to b6l18Ve ln that stuff but she seemed so mslstent 1 thought Oh well she mlght tell me SOm6th1Hg 1nterest1ng I cllmbed the steps of the house and Just as I got to the door It was opened by the mos' unusual person I had ever seen She was very dark both 1n hamr and com DIGXIOD and had on a br1ght red dress She wore much Jewelry especlally ungs-one on every fmger We went 1nto a darkened room and she led me to a table on Wh1Ch sat 9. crystal ball She sat down 0ppOS1t8 me and spoke for the flrst t1me I can tell you don t really bel1eve I can see the past and future so It w1ll be hard er to get contact w1th my med1um Then she peered 1nto the crystal ball and slowly spoke Your name IS Rose Mary Herltage You have made much mcney sellmg now I see It a powerful freckle remover I was astounded at th1s b1t of truth but not wholly bellevlng her pow ers yet I sa1d Could you tell me about my hlgh school classmates? What have they done smce graduat1on I could see her crystal ball get smoky and then she began I see a cl1n1c 1n Indonesla And yes Allce Allen IS the head nurse Also 1n th1s half of the world IS Morr1s McCurdy a great favor1te of the k1ng of S1am He IS teachlng the k1ng and h1S entxre court to play pool In Slam too IS Shlrley Wynant She owns a large farm ra1s1ng S13.IT1eS8 cats Farther east yet I see D1ck Goff He has opened a meat market IH Indla but lt 1S not very successful due to the fact that the largest part of the populat1on the Hmdus don t eat meat Go1ng north I see Dean Plckett He IS sellmg The ESklm0S f1nd they make a warm place to sleep IH on cold nxghts Also up north IS Gerald Rldgeway the forelgn m1n1ster to Iceland VVh1le he 1S there he IS studymg the nature of the Polar bear and wr1t1ng a column on them w'h1ch appears weekly 1n the Pendleton Tlmes Next my crystal ball takes me to the sunny R1v1era IH France Here I see Cameron Calvert and Bob Carpenter st1ll together as ln thelr sen1or days are runnlng a famous caslno Bob Stanley IS the head bouncer and the two chlef entertamers are MRTVID Harvey and Gene Crosley dolng the1r smgmg and dancmg act Next to South Afrxca where Robert Manshlp has a 15 000 acre farm spec1a.l1z1ng 1n the ra1s1ng of panda bears Ellzabeth and Don Jones are on tour around the wo1ld collectmg curlos to be put ln the soon to be establ1shed museum whnch w1ll be located 1n the empty lot next to the Roxy Theatre I sa1d fl am amazed You know so much more about them than I do But have all my former classmates gone to forelgn countr1es Oh no she replled Many of them are r1ght here 1n the Umlted States Flrst I see Barbara Ormes She marrled a MEXICRD wh1le on a VlS1t to the Southwest and 1S now a senor1ta famous for her beauty and mod esty Go1ng farther west to Callforma we flnd Alcatraz pr1son and 1n It D31Vld Taylor He was a successful banker for n1ne years and IS now servlng a term for embezzlement It IS thought he got h1s early tra1n1ng when he was treasurer for h1s class Also 1n Callfornla are Valasta and Hugh Bell who have an orange grove They have perfected a new smudge pot Whlch burns wlthout smudge In San Franclsco IS Maxme Wlldman Maxme who now goes by the name Tess IS mak1ng a fortune as a blues s1nger 1n a downtown n1gl1t club Travelmg south we come to Arkansas where Vesta Lou Go1ng IS rest1ng after the publ1cat1on of her book The Tr1als and Trib- ulatlons of a Bar mald And now to a klndergarten ln Paducah Kentucky where Beverly Eller IS followlng her l1fe-long amb1t1on to be a teacher and ws makmg 11ttle thmgs count.
