Ruth Manifold is the model. The subject of the demonstration is The School Girl's Wardrobe. Edith has had a wide experience in several phases of 4-Ht Club work. During her eight years as a member, she has completed eight divisions of clothing, five of food preparation, one of room improvement, and has been junior leader of the club in her com- munity for three years. Her accomplishments in judging contests are commendable as she was Z1 member of the team that won the International Food Preparation judg- ing contest held in Chicago in 1938. Several State Fair prizes have been awarded on exhibits she has made. She also has been given a trip to the 4-H Club Round-Up at Purdue. Graduation weakened the pitching staff and infield, but alert underclassmen filled the gap, and the Irish were on their way. Lapel fell before the Irish attack by a 5-4 margin, but a loss to Fortville squared the season standing. Next to meet the Pendleton team came the Alexandria Tigers, and they were successful in winning a 7-4 victory. Playing a return game with the Fortville club, the Irish turned loose a surge of power to win a 6-4 revenge. The Irish ended the fall season with a mark of .400 by losing a tough game to Lapel 2-1. BASKETBALL Faced by the toughest schedule in many years, the Irish ball club tight- ened their shooting eyes and went in scrapping. The Irish lost the opener to a tall Summitville team, but were successful in turning back the Markleville Arabians in the second game of the season. Pendleton fell before Burris, Lapel, Middletown, and Sheridan before they really got down to business and started to click, and then, bang! the Irish toppled Fortville, Elwood, Knightstown, Lapel, St. Mary's, and Noblesville in rapid but deathlike succession. Pendleton won the Invitational Tourney opener from the defending title holding Middletown Cossacks and Markleville subdued the Lapel Bulldogs. Markleville broke the Irish victory string at seven by handing them a 54-21 shellacking to capture their initial invitational tourney crown. Following the tourney, Pendleton was downed by the Alexandria Tigers, but bounced back to trim the Wfarren Central club. The Irish then lost two in a row to Hartford City and Greenfield, but finished the season play in a blaze of pre-sectional ball playing by defeating Markleville, Hagerstown, and Fortville. Pendleton loomed as a potential sectional darkhorse and was successful in trimming the highly favored Elwood Panthers, Central Indiana Conference champions, before advancing to semi-final play to be defeated by Alexandria. This year's squad was marked by the appearance of three seniors, live juniors, and two sophomores. The final statistics showed a total of 11 wins against 8 losses for the season schedule. Smiles come to the faces of Pendleton's eager fans when they recall some of the state's finest teams who fell before the Irish attack, and then they realize that the Pendleton squad of 1939-40 was really an excellent ball team. TRACK AND SPRING BASEBALL The Irish thinlyclads, blessed with the return of ten lettermen, should have one of their best years. The Irish are scheduled to be in meets with the following: Mt. Summit, Greenfield, Gas City, Warren Central, New Castle, Noblesville, Alexandria, Fairmount, Southport Relays, and the Sectional. After coming out on the short end in the baseball fall schedule, the Pen- dleton baseball squad have hopes of a better average in spring games.
