Signed: CLASS OF NINETEEN HUNDRED AND FORTY-FIVE CLASS HISTORY Toward the first of September ' way back in 1933. twenty bewildered- looking little kiddies came to school with their mammas. Among these little darlings were Zale Southard, Laurel Stoner. Evelyn Rumler, Bob Hoppes, Phyllis Redick, Joann M ichael. Denny Kinnard, Vinetta Aiman. Norma Gustin Pattv Wilson, Ronnie Oark. Charles Oldham. Debris Beeman, Joyce Owens Dorris Davidson, Beverly Jacobs. Dorotha Foust, Mary Ina Lee. Guy Sisson. and Pat Little. We all made it safely (?) through the first grade, and then, in the second. Gwen Clark came te join us in 6ur little adventure. In the third grade Don Michael came to Pendleton. Little did we know he would later become our four-term president. In the fourth grade peace and quiet reigned. We had no additions to our class that year. At the beginning of the 5th year we moved to the North Building. During that same year Mary Ina Lee and Guy Sisson must have grown tired of our company because they just up and left! But after they had gone, a curly-headed little boy. Bob Wills, made his appearance. The next vear-6th grade-Lloyd Neese and Eva Jean Burris came wandering up the fr ont walk and liked us so well they decided to stay. Then came the big thrill-our first year at the High School Building. George Parker and Bob DeShong got here just in time to share it with us. By the time we were freshmen. Jeanne Harvey had joined our happy little group. Ike and Iny must have missed us because they came back. All the farmers ' children, plus a few strays picked up here and there, entered P H S. that same year. After staring at them a few days we finally leam ' ed that their names were Anna Mae Hoover. Chester Cook, Frances Elling . ' ood. John Manship, Lee Ellen Krueger. Virginia Faust, and Fred Kiphart. The end of the sophomore year found us with 37 of our 38 members. Madora Jones and Janet Martin had come that year and that made our group just about complete. During the rush of our junior year we had only one new member; namely. Harriett Owens. From there on in it was pretty smooth (?) sailing. We had no addi- tions nor subtractions— just a few complications. And so we graduated ! f gS CLASS PROPHECY 1945 This evening as I sat in my New York office for the magazine Beauti- mour, and as I finished reading The Crier, Fall Creek ' s largest news- paper, edited by Robert Hoppes, one of my old school friends, I began to wonder what had become of the rest of that old class of ' 45— the one in which 39 of us had gi-aduated. The light had not been lighted yet and as I gazed into the darkened comers it seemed that many familiar faces con- fronted me. I was tired tonight and the gathering dusk only clouded my mind the more. The faces grew more and more pronounced, and in the darkest comer of all, I beheld the figure of a stranger. He stepped forward and said in a clear, bell-like voice, I am the one alone who can tell you at this moment where every member of your class is. I am sure we can travel every place tonight if we hurry. Come! We left the office and he gave me a pair of shoes to put on. I did this and lo! when I took the first step, I had covered five miles. After several such steps, we stopped. We were now in the heart of Chicago and a huge building confronted us. On a signboard in front were painted these words: Ike and Mike ' s Five and Dime Store. My friend added that these old friends were prospering greatly in this business, and that Norma Jeanne Gustin was head floorlady. It was now getting rather late and my guide was anxious to get away from Chicago, but first he took me to a nearby corner, and I beheM Janet Martin and Gwen Qark in blue uniforms— traffic cops. We crossed to the other side of town and hurried through the suburbs. Twenty miles away we came to a signboard, Which read Vote for Dorotha Foust, for Mayor of Purdueburg. We soon came to this thriving little city of sixteen in- habitants. Zale Southard was now Police Commissioner. Purdueburg also boasted of a senator, Robert DeShong, in the United States Senate. A mile or so outside of town we saw the Mary Ina Lee Memorial Hospital for Diseased and Mentally Deranged Canines, with Dr. Lee Ellen Krueger, and Nurse Evelyn Rumler in charge. Miss Lee had built the hospital ' in memory of a decrepit old dog formerly belonging to Beverly Jacobs, the stage and screen actress. We then went across two states and into a large city. Brilliant lights greeted our entrance and we found ourselves at the door of a huge theatre. On a billboard in flaming red letters were these words: Dennett H. Kin- nard ' s Stage Presentation of Chorus Girls starring Joann Michael and Madora Jones. The last performance was just over, and the crowds came rushing out. Among the faces I recognized Mr. and Mrs. Charies Oldham. Chariie was farming on a large scale in New York State and hadi come into the city for the week-end. Also I saw Reverend Don R. Lake, minister in that community, coming from the balcony. Destiny, my guide, said, We shall now go to the sea-coast and embark on ' The Boat of Dreams. ' We shall be able to cross the ocean in a very short while. When we landed, I looked around in astonishment. Then Destiny told me we were in that part of France which had not been ravaged by the Germans. About a mile farther on, we came to a large frame farmhouse— and I sat down to rest awhile. Then a pretty, smiling, French girl came to the door and behind her was her husband, a young American lieutenant. Why, it was Bob Wills, and he told me he was in charge of reconstructmg the telephone lines. He had enlisted in the army soon after graduation. He also told me about the three other classmates who were in France too. They were Fred Kiphart, a Red Cross Worker, Pat Little, a Red Cross Nurse and Anna Mae Hoover, who incidentally got married soon after the ■war end€d, now the proprietress of an exclusive restaurant in Paris. He also told me that Chester Cook had just gotten a patent on a new kind ot scouring cleanser. Evidently he was traveling on the proceeds of his ad- venture and introducing it into the foreign countries. From town to town we went, until finally we reached the sea-coast and embarked on our boat again, this time for Japan. Here we spent but a few moments and I saw no one I knew. Next we went to South Africa and discovered Laurel Stoner, who was now a great merchant. He was also married and well on the road to suc- cess On the coast we saw several large ships and on one of them we saw John Manship, the Captain. He was bound for the United States and toM us that he had as passengers, Frances Ellingwood, the noted pianist and music teacher, and George Parker, the world ' s light-weight champion, who had been on a tour around the world. Traveling for a few minutes, we came to Mexico, and I discovered that fate had even dropped a few in this corner of the world. Lloyd Neese was the countr - ' s Attorney-General, and he had as his prosperous stenograph- ers and bookkeepers, Phyllis Redick and Joyce Owens. Dorris Davidson had married the owner of three Mexican mines and was now very wealthy. Patty Lou Wilson had just had a new novel translated ' into Spanish, and it had become the sensation of all the countries in hich it had been read. Still wearing these marvelous shoes, Destiny brought me nearer to my old home. Returning to New York, I was led into quite a beautiful and expensive beauty salon where I found Jeanne Harvey and Eva Jean Bums to be the owners, and right across the street there was a large estabhsh- ment called the Home of the Faust Fashion Designs. I went in. My time was running short, but I just had to stop and talk. I told Virginia of all the exciting experiences I had been having; then she told me about the remaining members of our class whom I had not been able to see. She told me that Deloris Beeman was leading a happily married life. She and her husband owned and operated a large supermarket in Huntsville. Vinetta, Miss Anthony, Aiman was doing very well as chief adviser in the correspondence school How to Get a Husband. The last member of our class, whom I had not seen or heard of, was Ronald Qark, and she told me that he had been coach in the school in Sywose County, and taught a class in bookkeeping once a week. When 1 turned to Destiny, after seeing and hearing the last of my friends, he smiled slowly. A loud noise occurred just then and in his place I beheld my own hearth, cold and cheerless now. The clock was just striking seven, and the beams of the rising sun were beginning to peep over the horizon. HARRIETT OWENS Kiugww M tfBBPy!
